TORONTO -- It wasn't quite raining cats and dogs, more like treys and treys on Friday night at the Goldring Centre. A pair of juniors, Jenning Leung and Dele Ogundokun, combined to hit seven of the 10 three-pointers drained by the visiting Redmen as McGill cruised to an 83-64 victory over Toronto in CIS men's preseason basketball.

It was McGill's unofficial season opener -- excluding a pair of losses to NCAA teams Valparaiso and Texas Tech during training camp in August -- and despite the two-month layoff between games, the offence was in full gear as they reached the 20-point plateau in all four quarters. The Redmen led 20-13 after the first, 41-30 at the half and 62-50 after three.

Leung, a 6-foot-1 guard from The Philippines, poured in a game-high 22 points to go along with six rebounds, one steal, a blocked shot and an assist. He shot a stellar 9-for-18 from the field, including a 3-for-10 performance from three-point range, and was 1-for-1 from the free-throw line.

Ogundokun,a 6-foot-2, 205-pound guard from Hamilton, Ont., tallied 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting, with a 4-for-6 effort from beyond the arc. He also collected game-highs in both rebounds (7) and assists (6), to go along with a blocked shot and one steal.

The Redmen actually had four players reach double figures in scoring, with Michael Peterkin (12) and Frederic Bourque (10) also joining the party.

Leading the scoring for the Varsity Blues was freshman Wilson Torres (15), sophomore Sage Usher (14) and Daniel Johansson (14), a freshman from Sweden.

McGill shot a superb 49.2 per cent from the floor (31/63), 40.0 from three-point range (10/25) and 68.8 from the charity stripe (11/16). The Varsity Blues shot 34.8, 24.1 and 52.4, respectively.

The Redmen had a whopping 48-28 edge in rebounding, a 9-7 edge in steals and a 4-0 margin in blocked shots. The only favourable stat for U of T was in the turnover department, where they fared slightly better with a 21-17 ratio. But McGill actually held a 15-13 advantage in points scored off turnovers.

McGill, 1-0 against CIS opponents, continues their three-game preseason road trip to southern Ontario with a game at McMaster (1-0) in Hamilton on Saturday (3 p.m.) followed by a rendez-vous with Ryerson (1-0) at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, inside Maple Leaf Gardens, on Sunday (2 p.m.).

The Varsity Blues (1-1) will continue preseason action on Oct. 8 when they welcome the visiting StFX X-Men (0-0).
