Box Score
HALIFAX -- The Dalhousie Tigers punched their ticket to the final of the Rod Shoveller Memorial men's basketball tournament Saturday night as they defeated the McGill Redmen 64-50 at the Dalplex sports centre.

It was the lowest offensive output on the season in 19 games played by the Redmen and the fewest point total that the Tigers have allowed all season against CIS competition. Dalhousie has now won seven consecutive contests and improves to 13-4 overall.

Four of the Tigers starters finished in double figures, led by Devon Stedman who tallied a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Teammate Ritchie Kanza Mata, a third-year point guard, was named the player of the game after collecting eight assists, five steals, four points and three rebounds.

For McGill, Francois Bourque had a team-high 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting for McGill, while Vincent Dufort, the team's leading scorer, was held to just eight points and eight rebounds. Dele Ogundokun also had eight points with a team-high 31 minutes of court time.

The Redmen took an early four-point lead but Dalhousie quickly gained control, leading 16-12 after the opening quarter, upping that to 34-19 at haltime and extending their advantage to an 18-point margin early in the third stanza. McGill's Ogundokun made a three-pointer in the third quarter to trim the deficit to nine points, but that's as close as the Redmen would get as the Tigers took 49-39 margin heading into the final period.

McGill connected on 38 per cent from the field (19/50), 36.4 from three-point range (8/22) and went 4-for-9 from the free-throw line. Dalhousie shot 40.7, 30.4 and 86.7 (13/15), respectively. The Redmen had a 35-32 edge in rebounds but committed 22 turnovers compared to 16 by Dalhousie, which led to an 18-9 margin for the Tigers in points from miscues.

The Tigers (2-0) advance to the tourney final, where they will face No. 2 ranked Ottawa (2-0) at 3 p.m.

McGill (1-1), which dropped to 7-8 against CIS opponents, will tip off against St. Francis Xavier (1-1) in the bronze medal affair at 1 p.m. Atlantic (12 noon Eastern). The X-Men own a 5-14 record overall.
