The game was supposed to be a playoff preview as the cross-town rivals are scheduled to meet in a sudden-death playoff at Love Competition hall on Feb. 27 but it was more a case of neither team wanting to show any moves.
McGill, which appeared to be playing possum in the first half, trailed 13-4 after the first quarter, 23-10 at the half and 41-30 after three. The Redmen committed an atrocious 31 turnovers, compared to 23 by UQAM.
Winn Clark led the Redmen with 11 points and five rebounds, while point-guard
Adrian Hynes-Guery was the only other Redmen in double figures with 10.
Rodrigo Imperador added eight.
McGill shot an anemic 24 per cent from th floor (12/50), went 0-for-19 from three-point range and made 20 of 25 free-throws. The Citadins shot 41.5, 30.8 and 62.4, respectively.
The Redmen, who dropped to 19-7 against CIS opponents, finished atop the RSEQ standings with an 11-5 record. UQAM ended up fourth with a 5-11 dossier. Both teams will no doubt take of their masks and show their real faces when they meet on Wednesday for the winner-take-all RSEQ semifinal. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. at Love Competition Hall, following the women's 6 p.m. semifinal between Laval and the Martlets.
