MONTREAL –
Vincent Dufort and
Nathan Joyal scored 17 points apiece as McGill shot the lights out in a stellar 87-52 road victory over the UQAM Citadins in Quebec university men's basketball, Saturday.
The Redmen put on a shooting clinic, sinking 33 of 64 shots from the field (51.6%), including a stellar 8-for-16 effort from beyond the three-point arc.
McGill led 21-16 after the opening quarter, then turned it up a notch, outscoring the Citadins 31-14 in the second stanza to take a 52-30 lead into the intermission. They increased that to a lopsided 70-44 advantage after three quarters.
if it gets any better than that, don't be surprised if a Hollywood film executive shows up looking to do a re-make of the 1971 comedy "The gang that couldn't shoot straight", only they would change "couldn't" to "could".
Dufort shot 7-for-12 from the field and made 3-of-4 from the line. Joyal, who collected his 17 points off the bench, shot 6-for-9 and 4-for-4, respectively.
Also in double figures for the Redmen was
Simon Bibeau with a cool dozen. Rookies
Dele Ogundokun and
Regis Ivaniukas each contributed nine points to the victory. Freshman
Francois Bourque pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, to go along with four points, three steals and a block.
Leading the way for UQAM, was Alexandre Bernard with 20 points in a losing cause.
The Citadins shot 35.7 in field-goals (20 of 56), went 1-for-12 from the arc and 11-for-20 from the line.
McGill (2-0), which shares the league lead with Bishop's (2-0), will host winless Concordia (0-2) on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. in Love Competition Hall. The Citadins (1-2) will get a one-week bye to regroup and play next on Nov. 27 at Laval (0-1).
