MONTREAL - Marie-Pier Bastrash, a first-year pre-med student from Trois-Rivières, Que., scored a game-high 22 points, matching a school record with six three-pointers as McGill routed Bishop's 78-46 in their women's basketball home-opener at Love Competition Hall, Thursday.

The 32-point margin of victory was McGill's largest against a Quebec opponent since a 93-42 conquest over Bishop's on Jan. 24, 1997.
 

Bastrash, who turned 21 earlier this month, shot a stellar 6-for-7 from beyond the arc, tying the single-game McGill record for most treys in a regular season contest, previously accomplished by Marie-Eve Martin (twice: in 2009-10 and 2010-11) and by Natalie Larocque (2010-11). The team's overall record, which includes non-conference games, is eight treys by Jenn Stacey in a 92-29 exhibition win over Carleton on Nov. 23, 1996. Stacey also had seven treys in an 80-63 exhibition win over Laurentian on Jan. 12, 1997. Another member of the Martlets to tally six from downtown in a non-conference setting was Jennifer de Leeuw.
 

Bastrash, a 5-foot-8 rookie guard, made seven of 12 shots from the field and went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. In a team-high 29 minutes, she was also credited with a pair of steals, two assists and one rebound.
 

She was one of three Martlets to reach double figures in scoring, along with team captain Francoise Charest (17) of Quebec City and fifth-year senior  Anneth Him-Lazarenko (11) of Panama City. The next leading scorers were Helene Bibeau and Abena Addo with six apiece.
 

Eleven of 12 Martlets players registered points as head coach Ryan Thorne utilized his bench significantly, getting 20 points off the bench. Gabriela Hebert pulled down a game-high six rebounds, to go along with two points and three steals in 16 minutes of court-time.
 

Gabrielle Chamberland of Sherbrooke, Que., was the only Gaiter in double figures with 11 points, whileBailey Trafford of Centreville, N.B., added eight.
 

McGill, which parlayed 26 Gaiters turnovers into 26 points, had a 16-10 edge in steals and held a 31-17 margin in rebounds. The Martlets, who never trailed, led 19-11 after the opening quarter, 36-25 at the half and 58-34 after three stanzas. McGill shot 41.8 per cent from the field (28/67) and 55.0 from the arc (11/20) but struggled from the line with a 52.4 success rate (11/21). Bishop's replied with 34.8, 8.3 and 59.1, respectively.
 

The McGill women are now 4-8 against CIS opponents, including a 2-2 mark in RSEQ conference action. They now get a four-week break to focus on the December exam period and will resume their schedule at the Concordia Reebok Tournament, Dec. 28-30.
