MONTREAL –
Channing Arndt of Yarmouth, Maine and
Chelsey Saunders of Ottawa, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub & Grill, for the period ending Sept. 22, 2013.
Arndt, a 22-year-old political science senior with the Redmen baseball team, batted .353 (6-for-17) over six games, hitting three homers, while scoring nine runs and racking up eight runs batted in as McGill posted a 3-3 record. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-fielder reached base 11 times, drew three walks, was hit by a pitch twice, had one sacrifice fly and one stolen base. He sparked the Redmen to a doubleheader sweep over Carleton on Saturday by going 5-for-6 at the plate with three homers and seven RBIs. Arndt is a product of Yarmouth high school.
Saunders, a 5- foot-6 forward with the Martlets hockey team, scored both goals in a 2-1 road victory over Queen's on Sunday and added an assist in a 5-3 home-ice win over Laurier, Saturday. In the victory over Queen's, the 22-year-old kinesiology senior opened the scoring at 13:35 of the first period, then potted the game-winner by breaking a 1-1 tie midway through the final period, on a 5-on-3 power-play. Against Laurier, she assisted on McGill's second marker which propelled the Martlets into a 2-0 lead en route to victory. Saunders joined the Martlets in 2009 out of Nepean high school.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
