MONTREAL -- Meggie Dargis of Trois-Rivières, Que., and Chester Dixon of Edina, Minn., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 30, 2018.
Dargis, a 5-foot-2 distance runner with the cross-country Martlets, led McGill to a first-place finish of five teams at the Sherbrooke Open last Saturday. The 22-year-old management senior finished atop the podium in the 57-runner field. She completed the six-kilometre race in 22 minutes, 44 seconds, two seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Daergis enrolled at McGill in 2015 after graduating from Champlain College.
Dixon, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound rookie leftfielder with the baseball Redmen, registered a .643 on-base percentage and scored a team-leading six runs over four games, helping McGill to three victories in four games, with a doubleheader sweep over Ottawa and a split with the NCAA’s Adirondack State (SUNY). The 18-year-old management freshman batted .545 with a 6-for-11 performance at the plate, walked three times and collected a pair of runs batted in. Dixon is product of Edina high school in Minnesota.
