MONTREAL –
Alex Kiss-Rusk of Beaconsfield, Que., and
Matthew Goudie of Colchester, Vt., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Jan. 24, 2015.
Kiss-Rusk, a 6-foot-4 centre with the basketball Martlets, scored a combined 42 points and pulled down 27 rebounds in two victories last weekend. She tallied 14 points and pulled down 11 boards in 64-49 win at Concordia last Thursday. Two days later, she added 28 points and 16 rebounds in a 72-70 overtime conquest against the visiting Stingers. The 22-year-old psychology junior shot 52.9 per cent from the floor (18-for-34) and went 6-for-12 from the foul-line. She added five blocked shots, a steal and a pair of assists. A daughter of McGill basketball all-stars Annette Kiss and Rick Rusk, she is a product of Phillips Academy who merited an NCAA scholarship at Virginia Tech before transferring to McGill for her sophomore season.
Goudie, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward on the soccer Redmen, came off the bench to score a pair of second-half goals as McGill rallied to defeat Concordia 2-1 in the RSEQ indoor league opener last Sunday. A 20-year-old science sophomore majoring in nursing, Goudie tied the score at 1-1 in the 58
th minute of play, then netted the winning tally in the 65
th minute. Prior to enrolling at McGill in 2014, he graduated from Colchester high school.
