MONTREAL --
Robert Sedin, a native of from Sunnyvale, Calif., and
Taylor Hough from Toronto, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 25, 2015.
Sedin, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound shortstop and starting pitcher with the baseball Redmen, was voted as tournament MVP as McGill swept all five games in Fredericton, last week to repeat as national champions of the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association. He batted a combined 5-for-19 at the plate with a walk, a pair of doubles, one home run, five runs scored and five RBIs in five games. Also, named pitcher of the year in the CCBA Northern Conference, the second-year entrepreneurship student won his only start at the Nationals, scattering four hits and allowing just one run in six innings. He struck out seven, walked six and hit one batter.
Hough, a 5-foot-10 goaltender with the hockey Martlets, posted a shutout and saved 48 of 49 shots in two victories over the Montreal Carabins and Ottawa Gee-Gees last week. The 21-year-old senior majoring in international development studies, posted a stellar 0.48 goals-against average and a stingy .980 save percentage. In a 2-1 shootout road win over the Carabins last Friday, she turned aside 27 of 28 shots in regulation, then stopped five of six attempts in the shootout. The next night, she stooped all 21 shots to earn her first career shutout. She joined the Martlets in 2012 out of Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute.
