MONTREAL –
Eric Uba of Kitchener, Ont., is the McGill University athlete of the week for the period ending March 3, 2024.
A six-foot, 200-pound right-winger with the Redbirds hockey team, Uba scored five points, including four goals, in three OUA East final playoff games last week.
The 23-year-old management senior scored once in a 4-2 loss to UQTR in Game 1 of the series last Wednesday. He exploded for a natural hat-trick with one assist as McGill rallied from a 3-0 deficit with five unanswered goals in a 5-3 victory and was then held pointless in Game 3, a 4-0 setback.
Uba is currently leading the OUA playoff scoring race with a 6-3-9 record in five games. He is also second on the team in overall scoring with a 23-22-45 record in 38 contests.
He was recruited to McGill in 2001 out of the Ontario Hockey League, where he played for the Guelph Storm and Flint Firebirds. McGill will travel to Brock in the OUA bronze medal game on March 9, before heading to Toronto as one of four OUA teams that have qualified for a berth at the U SPORTS national championship.
