Alexandre Gagnon of
Gatineau, Que., and
Charlène Robitaille of St. Jean, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 19, 2023.
Gagnon, a 5-foot-11, 177-pound forward with the men’s hockey team, scored two goals and added three assists as McGill swept the Ottawa Gee-Gees in an OUA East best-of-three semifinal series last week. In Game 1 of the playoffs on Feb. 15, the 23-year-old physical and health education junior tallied the opening marker and assisted on the second goal in a 4-2 home-ice victory. Gagnon was recruited to McGill in 2020 after playing for Cote du Sud Everest in the Quebec Jr. AAA Hockey League.
Robitaille, a six-foot middle blocker on the women’s volleyball squad, scored a game-high 15 points as McGill defeated division-leading
UQAM 3-0 last Friday, improving the
Martlets record to 12-6 and clinching second place in the
RSEQ conference standings. The 24-year-old is currently working on a diploma in management after graduating last spring with a degree in nutritional science. In the three-set win over
UQAM,
Robitaille had 10 kills with one service ace, a pair of stuff blocks and four assisted blocks. She added eight digs and one assist on
defence. A product of

Robitaille was named player of the year in the
RSEQ conference last season and merited first-team All-Canadian
honours.
