MONTREAL -- Jacob Gervais-Chouinard of Sherbrooke, Que., and Allene Kennedy of Truckee, Calif., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending March 23, 2014.

The 6-foot-1, 186-pound education freshman was named as the top goaltender of the PotashCorp CIS University Cup men's hockey championship over the weekend. He became just the ninth goalie in the 52-year history of the CIS tournament to earn a berth on the all-tourney squad from a team not involved in the gold medal final. The last time that this happened was in 2007 when Laurier's Jeff MacDougald received the honour.

Gervais-Chouinard posted a tourney-best .945 save percentage, kicking aside 86 of 91 shots. The 22-year-old rookie registered a 1-1 record with a 2.05 goals-against average, allowing five goals in 146 minutes and 22 seconds. After celebrating his birthday with a 34-save performance in a 3-2 conquest over Carleton in McGill's opener last Friday, he kicked aside 52 of 55 shots in a 3-2 double overtime loss to Alberta, the eventual tourney champions.
