MONTREAL — Former McGill University offensive lineman Domenico Piazza has signed with the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, the club announced on Thursday.
He is among 163 products from U SPORTS institutions listed on Canadian Football League rosters listed on opening day of the 2026 CFL season. Piazza becomes the 66th McGill football alumnus to earn a professional opportunity in the CFL.
A native of Mercier, Que., Piazza joins the Argos after previously spending time with the Edmonton Elks organization. He was originally selected by Edmonton in the fifth round, 40th overall, of the 2025 CFL Draft following an outstanding university career with the Redbirds.
The 6-foot-2, 294-pounder completed five seasons at McGill, where he established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in U SPORTS. Piazza was a two-time RSEQ conference all-star who earned U SPORTS first-team All-Canadian honours in 2025 after meriting second-team status in 2024.
A co-captain during his final season with the Redbirds last fall, Piazza started all 40 regular-season games of his McGill career. He demonstrated remarkable versatility along the offensive line, making 25 starts at left tackle, eight at centre and seven at left guard.
After attending Edmonton's training camp in 2025, Piazza returned to McGill for a fifth season while pursuing a certificate in public relations and communications management. He had previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in industrial relations.
In 2025, Piazza moved to centre and handled the team's snapping duties while anchoring an offensive line that helped him secure his second straight All-Canadian recognition. He also recovered a fumble in the Redbirds' season-opening contest against Sherbrooke.

MONTRÉAL — L'ancien joueur de ligne offensive de l'Université McGill Domenico Piazza s'est entendu avec les Argonauts de Toronto de la Ligue canadienne de football (LCF), a annoncé l'équipe jeudi.
Il fait partie des 163 anciens du réseau U SPORTS inscrits sur les formations de la Ligue canadienne de football (LCF) à l'ouverture de la saison 2026. Piazza devient également le 66e ancien du programme de football de l'Université McGill à décrocher une occasion de poursuivre sa carrière dans le circuit professionnel canadien.
Originaire de Mercier, en Montérégie, Piazza se joint aux Argonauts après un passage au sein de l'organisation des Elks d'Edmonton. Il avait été sélectionné par Edmonton au cinquième tour, au 40e rang au total, lors du repêchage de la LCF en 2025, au terme d'une brillante carrière universitaire avec les Redbirds.
Le joueur de ligne de 6 pieds 2 pouces et 294 livres a disputé cinq saisons à McGill, où il s'est imposé parmi les meilleurs joueurs de ligne offensive du réseau U SPORTS. Choix d'étoiles du RSEQ à deux reprises, Piazza a été nommé sur la première équipe canadienne d'étoiles de U SPORTS en 2025, après avoir mérité une place sur la deuxième équipe en 2024.
Cocapitaine des Redbirds lors de sa dernière saison, l'automne dernier, Piazza a amorcé les 40 matchs de saison régulière de sa carrière universitaire. Il s'est également distingué par sa polyvalence, obtenant 25 départs au poste de bloqueur à gauche, huit au centre et sept comme garde à gauche.
Après avoir participé au camp d'entraînement des Elks en 2025, Piazza est revenu à McGill pour une cinquième saison tout en complétant un certificat en gestion des relations publiques et des communications. Il détenait déjà un baccalauréat ès arts en relations industrielles.
En 2025, il a effectué la transition vers le poste de centre, assumant les responsabilités des remises tout en dirigeant une ligne offensive qui lui a permis d'obtenir une deuxième sélection canadienne consécutive. Il a également recouvré un échappé lors du match d'ouverture des Redbirds contre le Vert & Or de Sherbrooke.
