SHERBROOKE — McGill's men collected three silver medals and one bronze to place fifth overall at the RSEQ Last Chance qualifying meet, a two-day competition held in Sherbrooke, Feb. 13-14. The event failed to produce any new qualifiers for Redbirds to meet the lofty standards for competing at nationals. The only remaining route is through the upcoming RSEQ conference championships, slated to be hosted by McGill, Feb. 20-22, where a qualifying standard or a gold medal will get the job done. 

The Redbirds finished with 36 points in the team standings. Sherbrooke claimed the title with 158.5 points, followed by Laval (87), Montréal (70) and ETS (50.5), while Concordia (26), UQAC (15), CMR Saint-Jean (9), UQAM (5) and UQTR (1) rounded out the standings.

Ben Gates, a mechanical engineering sophomore from Regina, led McGill's podium efforts with a runner-up finish in the 600 metres, clocking 1:20.75.

Lucas Levenson, a management sophomore from Toronto, added another silver in the 1500m in 4:17.02, and Emmett Pindar, a physical education sophomore from Ottawa, secured silver in the long jump with a mark of 6.45m.

Jay Yetman, an Arts junior from Ottawa, accounted for McGill's lone bronze medal, placing third in the 300m in 36.18 seconds.
