(VERSION FRANÇAISE SUIT)

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – McGill University's novice crews captured two victories and the Redbirds added a bronze in the university pair at the 55th annual Head of the Trent rowing regatta, Saturday.

The novice eight produced McGill's most decisive victory, completing the 2.6-kilometre course in 12 minutes, 40.4 seconds, more than 29 seconds ahead of runner-up Ottawa (13:09.7). Waterloo was third in 13:19.9.

Coxswain Jad Morin guided Lucas Richards, Jeremy Dube, Ian Benkoczi, Patrick Hunter, Aaron St. Louis, Alexander Kerr, Shoham Zuker and James Escott to the victory.

It marked a second consecutive win for the crew, which also captured the novice eight at the season-opening Head of the Rideau in Ottawa.

Justin Boulanger and Erik Hunter made it two victories for McGill's novices, winning the inaugural men's novice double at the Head of the Trent. They completed the 2.6-km course in 15:14.2, finishing well ahead of Nipissing (16:08.5).

The Redbirds added a third podium in the men's university pair, also raced over 2.6 km. Edison Luke and Thomas Barcza finished third in 13:04.6, behind Ottawa (12:45.5) and Queen's (12:52.2).

"Again, incredibly proud of the athletes at the regatta," said McGill head coach Stéphanie Marchand. "They battled some really fast crews and were able to learn from the previous regatta and step it up.

"Moving to sprint training, we are quite happy with the foundation laid out, and are very much looking forward to the next step!"

Arthur Casalis and Rand Ripple narrowly missed the podium in the men's lightweight varsity double, finishing fourth over the 4.6-km course in 16:16.8. The Université de Montréal was third in 16:07.7, while Brock won in 15:50.8.

Martens also finished sixth in the lightweight single in 17:52.8. Trent was fifth in 17:43.8 and Brock won in 17:24.7.

The Redbirds registered two more sixth-place finishes in the heavyweight boats.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont.
