SHERBROOKE, Que. — The McGill women's track team posted three gold medal victories and a pair of runner-up finishes Saturday at the Sherbrooke Vert & Or Invitational, placing third of 11 university teams..
Julie Bortolato of Mountainview, Calif., opened the Martlets' gold rush by winning the pole vault. The science sophomore cleared 3.28 metres to finish first of seven competitors in the event.
Rebecca Warcholak, a science junior from Toronto, captured the triple jump with a leap of 11.40m.
On the track, newcomer Julia Berube-Boutin, a master's student in neuroscience who hails from Toronto, won the 1000m in 2:55.94, finishing first of 14 entries. Teammate Ena Smailbegovic, a freshman from Toronto, made it a one-two McGill finish by taking silver in 3:06.25.
McGill's sprinters also reached the podium in the 300m, with senior Ashleigh Brown of Brampton, Ont., earning silver in 41.82 and freshman Natalya Babkine of Montreal West adding bronze in 42.15.
The Montréal carabins finished atop the women's university standings with 132 points. Host Sherbrooke was next with 101, followed by McGill (97), Laval (95), UQAC (42), Concordia (25), Carleton (21), UQTR (14), CMR Saint-Jean (0), UQAM 90) and ETS (0).

Victoire au saut en hauteur, triple couronne et double distance : l'équipe féminine d'athlétisme de McGill à Sherbrooke
Trois médailles d'or permettent aux Martlets de terminer troisièmes au classement du championnat universitaire
SHERBROOKE, Québec — L'équipe féminine d'athlétisme de McGill a remporté trois médailles d'or et deux deuxièmes places samedi lors du tournoi Vert & Or Invitational de Sherbrooke, se classant troisième sur 11 équipes universitaires.
Julie Bortolato, de Mountainview, en Californie, a ouvert la ruée vers l'or des Martlets en remportant le saut à la perche. L'étudiante de deuxième année en sciences a franchi 3,28 mètres pour terminer première parmi les sept concurrentes de l'épreuve.
Rebecca Warcholak, une étudiante de troisième année en sciences originaire de Toronto, a remporté le triple saut avec un bond de 11,40 m.
Sur la piste, la nouvelle venue Julia Berube-Boutin, étudiante en maîtrise de neurosciences originaire de Toronto, a remporté le 1000 m en 2:55,94, terminant première sur 14 participantes.
