SHERBROOKE, Que. — The McGill men's track and field team led all schools with four gold medals at the Sherbrooke Vert & Or Invitational, en route to finishing fifth of 11 university teams, Saturday, at the Centre Sportif. It was the team's first competition of the new year and the second meet since opening the indoor season in late November.
Sacha Dernoncourt of Baton Rouge, Louisana, paced the Redbirds' distance runners by winning the 1500 metres. The chemical engineering junior crossed the finish line in three minutes, 51.92 seconds.
Sean Adams, from the town of State College, Penn., added another title by taking the 1000m. The geography senior was clocked in 2:29.81.
William Sanders of Ottawa, claimed the 300m sprint. the chemical engineering sophomore crossed the finish line in 34.81.
Aiden Chopin of Barrington, Rhode Island, won the weight throw with a 13.84-metre heave.
The Montreal Carabins finished atop the men's standings with 107 points. Sherbrooke was second (98), followed by Laval (89), Concordia (63), McGill (53), UQAC (28), ETS (25), CMR - St. Jean (13), UQAM (13), Carleton (12), and UQTR (11).
The third of six indoor meets is next on tap with the McGill Team Challenge, a two-day event slated for Jan. 23-24, at the Tomlinson Fieldhouse, inside the Currie Gymnasium.

Les Redbirds remportent quatre médailles d'or au meeting d'athlétisme Sherbrooke Invitational
McGill s'impose au 1500 m, au 1000 m, au 300 m et au lancer du poids
SHERBROOKE, Québec — L'équipe masculine d'athlétisme de McGill a dominé toutes les écoles avec quatre médailles d'or au Sherbrooke Vert & Or Invitational, terminant cinquième sur onze équipes universitaires, samedi, au Centre Sportif. Il s'agissait de la première compétition de l'équipe depuis le début de l'année et de la deuxième depuis l'ouverture de la saison en salle fin novembre.
Sacha Dernoncourt, de Baton Rouge, en Louisiane, a mené les coureurs de fond des Redbirds en remportant le 1 500 mètres. L'étudiant en troisième année de génie chimique a franchi la ligne d'arrivée en 3 minutes et 51,92 secondes.
Sean Adams, originaire de State College, en Pennsylvanie, a ajouté un autre titre à son palmarès en remportant le 1 000 mètres. L'étudiant en dernière année de géographie a réalisé un temps de 2:29,81.
