MONTREAL — Gabrielle Côté and Rafaelle Robitaille-Bourgeois each scored as the Montreal Carabins blanked McGill 2-0 in U SPORTS women's soccer play Friday at Stade CEPSUM.
Côté opened the scoring in the 17th minute with an unassisted marker, her first of the season. Robitaille-Bourgeois doubled the lead in the 67th, also unassisted, for her second of the campaign.
"The Carabins have a really nice team and were quick to respond on transitions, which makes them very dangerous," said McGill bench boss Jose-Luis Valdes. "They scored both goals on different throw-ins and we weren't as alert as we should have been on those plays."
The Carabins outshot McGill 10-4 in attempted shots and held a 5-0 advantage on target. Montreal also led 7-2 in corner kicks and committed 10 fouls compared to six for the Martlets. No yellow or red cards were issued.
McGill goalkeeper Ann-Stephanie Fortin made one save on three shots faced while conceding both goals in a full 90 minutes of action. Her counterpart, Anna Bianca Stevens-Cardin, was not tested and earned the clean sheet without recording a save.
Among the positives for McGill were two freshmen — Camille Berg, from North Vancouver, B.C,, and Georgia Baldwin, a midfielder from Toronto — both of whom played the full 90 minutes.
With the result, Montreal improved to 2-0 while McGill dropped to 1-1.
Next up, McGill hosts Laval in their first annual "Women in Sport" game on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium. Montreal visits UQTR the same afternoon.

L'attaque des Martlets étouffée lors de la défaite à Montréal

MONTRÉAL — Gabrielle Côté et Rafaelle Robitaille-Bourgeois ont chacune marqué un but vendredi au Stade CEPSUM, permettant aux Carabins de Montréal de battre McGill 2-0 dans le cadre du saison de soccer féminin U SPORTS.
Côté a ouvert le pointage à la 17e minute avec un but sans aide, son premier de la saison. Robitaille-Bourgeois a doublé l'avance à la 67e minute, également sans aide, pour son deuxième but de la saison.
« Les Carabins ont une très bonne équipe et ont su réagir rapidement lors des transitions, ce qui les rend très dangereuses », a déclaré l'entraîneur de McGill, Jose-Luis Valdes. « Elles ont marqué leurs deux buts sur des remises en jeu différentes et nous n'avons pas été aussi vigilants que nous aurions dû l'être sur ces actions. »
Les Carabins ont dominé McGill 10-4 au niveau des tirs tentés et ont pris l'avantage 5-0 au niveau des tirs cadrés. Montréal a également mené 7-2 au niveau des corners et a commis 10 fautes contre six pour les Martlets. Aucun carton jaune ou rouge n'a été distribué.
La gardienne de McGill, Ann-Stephanie Fortin, a effectué un arrêt sur trois tirs, tout en concédant les deux buts en 90 minutes de jeu. Son homologue, Anna Bianca Stevens-Cardin, n'a pas été mise à l'épreuve et a obtenu le blanchissage sans effectuer d'arrêt.
Parmi les points positifs de McGill, deux nouvelles recrues - Camille Berg, originaire de North Vancouver, C.-B., et Georgia Baldwin, milieu de terrain originaire de Toronto - ont joué l'intégralité des 90 minutes.
Grâce à ce résultat, Montréal affiche désormais un bilan de 2-0, tandis que McGill tombe à 1-1.
McGill accueillera Laval dimanche à 15 h 30 au stade Percival Molson pour son premier match annuel « Femmes dans le sport ». Montréal se rendra à l'UQTR le même après-midi .
