MONTREAL — Emilia Diaz-Ruiz notched another double-double as McGill closed out the fall semester with a 55–45 road victory over UQAM in RSEQ women's university basketball, Saturday, at the Centre Sportif de l'UQAM. 

The Martlets improved to 4–2 and climbed into second place, while the winless Citadins dropped to 0–6.

McGill dominated the boards 60–38 despite committing 28 turnovers to UQAM's 19. It was the Martlets third highest rebound total in school history and the most since last season when they pulled down 60 in an  86-37 win at UQAM on Feb. 22, 2025. The  single-game school record is 74 boards against UQAM on Feb. 19, 2015.

The Martlets never trailed in a contest that got off to a sleepy start with McGill leading 9–8 after the first quarter. It then moved into a higher gear with a 28–20 edge at halftime and 43–31 after three before holding off a late UQAM push to win by 10.

Diaz-Ruiz paced McGill with 10 points and 18 rebounds, her second straight double-double, while adding four assists and two steals. Only three other McGill players have had more rebounds in a game. Sirah Diarra holds the school record with 23 against Bishop's on Nov. 15, 2018 and she also had 19 twice in the 2018-19 season. Sylvia Sweeney had 22 against Laval on Nov. 17, 1973. The other member of the Martlets to reach that lofty plateau was Mariam Sylla with 19 on Jan. 10, 2014. 

Laura Wells came off the bench to drain four treys and finish with a game-high 12 points for McGill, while teammates Erica Simeone and Emie Boucard added eight apiece. Emma-Jane Scotten chipped in six points, five rebounds and four assists.

Jasmine Genesse led UQAM with 14 points and five rebounds, while Elisabeth Duchemin added seven points, six boards and four assists. The Citadins were outscored 11–1 in baskets made from three-point range and 20–17 in bench points.

The Martlets shot 27.8 per cent from the floor, going 11-for-40 from beyond the arc, and making 4-of-5 free throws. UQAM hit 30.3 per cent overall, but shot only 1-of-9 from three-point range and 4-for-8 from the line.

McGill now enters the exam and holiday break before resuming play in the new year with a non-conference matchup at Carleton in Ottawa on Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. Regular-season play resumes Jan. 8 when Bishop's (4–2) visits Love Competition Hall for a 6 p.m. tipoff. UQAM's next contest is Jan. 9 at division-leading Laval (5–1).

Les Martlets dominent au rebond 60-38 et marquent 11 tirs à trois points pour couler l'UQAM

MONTRÉAL — Emilia Diaz-Ruiz a réalisé un autre double-double alors que McGill clôturait le semestre d'automne par une victoire 55-45 à l'extérieur contre l'UQAM dans le championnat universitaire féminin de basket-ball RSEQ, samedi, au Centre sportif de l'UQAM.

Les Martlets ont amélioré leur fiche à 4-2 et se sont hissées à la deuxième place, tandis que les Citadins, toujours sans victoire, ont chuté à 0-6.

McGill a dominé les rebonds 60-38 malgré 28 pertes de balle contre 19 pour l'UQAM. Il s'agit du troisième meilleur total de rebonds de l'histoire de l'école et du meilleur depuis la saison dernière, où elles en avaient capté 60 lors d'une victoire 86-37 à l'UQAM le 22 février 2025. Le record de l'université pour un seul match est de 74 rebonds contre l'UQAM le 19 février 2015.

Les Martlets n'ont jamais été menées dans un match qui a démarré lentement, McGill menant 9-8 après le premier quart-temps. L'équipe a ensuite passé à la vitesse supérieure, menant 28-20 à la mi-temps et 43-31 après trois quarts-temps, avant de repousser une poussée tardive de l'UQAM pour s'imposer par 10 points.

Diaz-Ruiz a mené McGill avec 10 points et 18 rebonds, son deuxième double-double consécutif, tout en ajoutant quatre passes décisives et deux interceptions. Seules trois autres joueuses de McGill ont réalisé plus de rebonds en un match. Sirah Diarra détient le record de l'université avec 23 rebonds contre Bishop's le 15 novembre 2018, et elle en a également réalisé 19 à deux reprises au cours de la saison 2018-2019. Sylvia Sweeney en a réalisé 22 contre Laval le 17 novembre 1973. L'autre membre des Martlets à avoir atteint ce niveau élevé est Mariam Sylla, avec 19 rebonds le 10 janvier 2014.

Laura Wells est sortie du banc pour marquer quatre tirs à trois points et terminer avec 12 points, le meilleur total du match pour McGill, tandis que ses coéquipières Erica Simeone et Emie Boucard ont ajouté huit points chacune. Emma-Jane Scotten a contribué avec six points, cinq rebonds et quatre passes décisives.

Jasmine Genesse a mené l'UQAM avec 14 points et cinq rebonds, tandis qu'Elisabeth Duchemin a ajouté sept points, six rebonds et quatre passes décisives. Les Citadines ont été dominées 11-1 au niveau des paniers à trois points et 20-17 au niveau des points marqués par les remplaçantes.

Les Martlets ont tiré à 27,8 % depuis le terrain, avec 11 tirs réussis sur 40 à trois points et 4 lancers francs réussis sur 5. L'UQAM a tiré à 30,3 % dans l'ensemble, mais n'a réussi que 1 tir sur 9 à trois points et 4 lancers francs sur 8.

McGill entre maintenant dans la période des examens et des vacances avant de reprendre le jeu au début de la nouvelle année avec un match hors-conférence à Carleton, à Ottawa, le 3 janvier à 14 h. La saison régulière reprend le 8 janvier lorsque Bishop's (4-2) se rendra au Love Competition Hall pour un coup d'envoi à 18 h. Le prochain match de l'UQAM aura lieu le 9 janvier chez Laval (5-1), leader de la division.
