NEW HAVEN, CT – Sophomore midfielder
Nathan Yee of Richmond, B.C., scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute of play as the McGill men's soccer team cruised to a 1-0 exhibition victory over the Yale Bulldogs, the defending NCAA Ivy League champions, at Reese Stadium, Monday.
The Redbirds concluded their preseason schedule with a promising and undefeated 3-0-1 record, outscoring opponents by an impressive 7-2 margin.
After scrimmaging against a CEGEP team from Trois-Rivieres on Aug. 15, McGill opened the exhibition campaign in earnest on Aug. 16 with a 2-1 decision over visiting Acadia, with goals from the aforementioned Yee and
Maher Fares, a freshman striker from Brossard, Que.
That result was followed by a 3-0 conquest at Queen's (Aug. 21) with McGill markers from the feet of Yee,
Nassim Kemel (on a PK), a first-year transfer from the Montreal Carabins and
Lefika Noko, a sophomore forward who hails from Geneva.
The next game was a 1-1 draw against visiting Memorial University of Newfoundland, where
Emilio Rossi-Levin, a junior midfielder from France, tallied the lone marker.
Goaltending duties were split in all games, primarily between juniors
Ludovyck Ciociola (6'0") from Montreal and
Gavin McFee (5'10") of Kelowna, B.C. Other 'keepers to see some playing time were
Akaash Mitsakakis-Nath (6'2"), a sophomore and freshman
Jad Sentissi (6'0"), both natives of Montreal.
Head coach
Marc Mounicot is back for his 12th year as bench boss and his troops will will now shift focus to the upcoming RSEQ regular season opener against the visiting Montreal Carabins as part of a Thursday night doubleheader (Aug. 29) at Molson Stadium. The women's soccer game will kickoff at 6 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8:15 p.m. Season tickets and single game admissions are available online at:

This year, the current McGill Redbirds roster features a young squad with 10 newcomers (including two transfers), along with 10 sophomores, five juniors and three seniors.
