MONTREAL -- Catherine Chénier-Gagnon of McGill University is among 36 competitors named to compete for Canada at the 2024 FISU World University Rowing Championships at Rotterdam, in the Netherlands from July 4-6.

This event brings together the top student athletes from around the world to showcase their rowing prowess in pursuit of podium glory.

A 21-year-old native of Aylmer, Que., who now resides in Gatineau, Que., Chénier-Gagnon is J.W. McConnell Entrance scholarship holder and entering her junior year in neuroscience. A product of Dawson College, she played varsity hockey for the Blues and won the Governor-General's Collegiate Bronze Medal in 2020, awarded to the person who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from a diploma-level, post-secondary program.

The selection process was conducted by the FISU selection committee, which comprises four Canadian University Rowing Association coaches and Chuck McDiarmid, lead for the RCA NextGen program. Athletes were nominated based on their previous performances and their ergometer submissions.
