McGill Martlets cross-country duo earns RSEQ all-star status

MONTREAL – Sophie Courville, a distance runner with the McGill University Martlets, has earned first-team all-star status, while Abene Glasgow has merited a spot on the second squad as the RSEQ women's cross-country laureates have been announced.

The top seven finishers at the RSEQ championship meet, held Oct. 26 in Vaudreuil, Que., automatically earn first-team status, while the next seven runners receive a berth on the second team.

Courville, a native Montrealer, is a 21-year-old science junior majoring in physiology. She finished fourth in the league's title meet, completing the eight-kilometre course in 30 minutes, nine seconds.

Glasgow, who hails from Toronto, is an 18-year-old Arts freshman. She finished 13th of 83 runners at the league championship, posting a time of 31:03.

Among the conference's major award winners, UQAM's Élisa Tripotin was named athlete of the year in a vote conducted by the league's 11 head coaches. Laval's Noémie Beaulieu won rookie-of-the-year honours, while UQTR's Maïné Dupuis-Azizah earned the leadership and citizenship award and Laval's Sylvain Cloutier was named coach of the year.
