Woolfenden leads Martlets to sixth-place finish at Capital Cross Country Challenge

McGill freshman cracks top 10 in 108-runner field at Ottawa meet

OTTAWA – Julianna Woolfenden led the McGill women's cross-country team with a 10th-place overall finish as the Martlets placed sixth at the Capital Cross Country Challenge, a six-kilometre race held at Mooney's Bay Park, Saturday.

Woolfenden completed the course in 23 minutes, 35.15 seconds, finishing 1:36.60 behind Laval's Léane Baril, who won the 108-runner race in 21:58.55. Montreal's Charlotte Chabbert claimed silver in 22:25.15, while Gabrielle Foran of Club Vainqueurs Plus took bronze in 22:44.89.

McGill's second finisher was Gabriella Barton, who placed 25th overall in 24:28.41. Macy Putka finished 44th in 25:09.85, followed by Ena Smailbegovic (50th; 25:30.65), and Andie Lawrence (54th; 25:41.25) to round out McGill's five scorers.

Those five combined for 134 points as McGill finished sixth in the eight-team field. Queen's won the meet with 31 points, followed by Laval (51), Montreal (91), UQTR (101), Ottawa (131), McGill (134), UQAR (213) and UQAM (227).

McGill's other finishers were Zoe Couture, who placed 56th overall in 25:55.61; Mila Degand (58th; 25:59.41); Kate McKinley (79th; 27:51.63); and Katie O'Carroll (94th; 29:41.15).

The Martlets return to action Oct. 10 at the Sherbrooke Invitational, an eight-kilometre race in Sherbrooke, Que.

La recrue de McGill se classe parmi les 10 premières d'un peloton de 108 coureuses à Ottawa

OTTAWA – Julianna Woolfenden a mené l'équipe féminine de cross-country de McGill avec une 10e place au classement général, tandis que les Martlets ont terminé au sixième rang au Capital Cross Country Challenge, une course de six kilomètres disputée samedi au parc Mooney's Bay.

Woolfenden a bouclé le parcours en 23 minutes 35,15 secondes, terminant à 1:36,60 de Léane Baril, de Laval, qui a remporté la course réunissant 108 participantes en 21:58,55. Charlotte Chabbert, de Montréal, a décroché la médaille d'argent en 22:25,15, tandis que Gabrielle Foran, du Club Vainqueurs Plus, a obtenu le bronze en 22:44,89.

La deuxième représentante de McGill à franchir la ligne d'arrivée a été Gabriella Barton, qui a pris le 25e rang au classement général en 24:28,41. Macy Putka s'est classée 44e en 25:09,85, suivie d'Ena Smailbegovic, 50e en 25:30,65, et d'Andie Lawrence, 54e en 25:41,25, pour compléter les cinq coureuses de McGill ayant contribué au pointage de l'équipe.
