OUA ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS: McGill women win one bronze as Martlets finish sixth

ST. CATHARINES, ONT – The McGill University women's rowing club registered a bronze medal performance in the varsity eight and finished sixth of 13 teams at the 2024 OUA championships, held at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course over the weekend. The originally scheduled two-day competition was shortened to just one due to high winds in the forecast for Saturday.

The women's eight was won by Queen's, which completed the two-kilometre race in six minutes, 6:35.53 seconds. they were followed by Western (6:44.17), which finished fractions of a second ahead of McGill (6:44.49). The Martlets boat included Varya Kataria (coxie), Alice Saito (stroke), Abigail Powell, Emily Lindquist, Eloise Doesserich, Gillian Helliwell, Maria Fletcher, Naomi Fandrich and Rebekkah Celikkanat).

In the junior varsity division, the novice women's coxed four registered a silver medal finish. That boat was composed of Sarah Felton, Eva Staples, Rachel Halko, Isabelle Cook and coxie Adam Han.

It capped a remarkable season for three McGill boats, the JV men's double, the varsity men's eight and the novice women's coxed four, each of which achieved a podium at every race thus far.

Queen's captured their second straight OUA women's title with 172 points, 20 more than second-place Western (152).  The Gaels won six gold medals, including the single, lightweight single, lightweight pair, four, lightweight eight, and heavyweight eight.
