MONTREAL –
Sophie Courville of McGill University captured bronze at the McGill Invitational cross-country meet, the RSEQ season opening race held Saturday, on the slopes of Mt. Royal Park.
Melanie Desautels of the Sherbrooke Vert & Or won the six-kilometre race in 22 minutes, 28 seconds to finished first of 77 distance runners. UQAM's
Elisa Tripotin finished four seconds back to claim silver in 22:32.
Courville, a 20-year-old physiology sophomore from Montreal, was the next one across the finish line, clocking in at 22:39.
Other scorers for McGill included junior
Sophie Rashid-Cocker (6th, 23:03) of Toronto and three freshmen, a trio headed by
Sienna Matheson (16th, 23:51) of Kingston, Ont.,
Marianne Lanctot (26th, 24:37) of Montreal, and
Noemie Chenail (27th, 24:43), a third-year medial student also from Montreal.
Sherbrooke won the women's division, placing runners in first, fourth, ninth, 10th and 17th to score 41 points and finish first of six schools in the team scoring. The Montreal Carabins were second with 50 points, followed by Laval (77), McGill (78), UQAM (116) and Concordia (176).

The next meet will be the Western Invitational in London, Ont., Sept. 23.
