LENNOXVILLE, QUE –
Etienne Gagnon scored 25 points with a 5-for-5 performance from the three-point arc, as Bishop's overwhelmed visiting McGill 111-61 in RSEQ men's basketball, Thursday.
It was the most points allowed by McGill in a regular season game since a 118-106 loss to Concordia on Jan. 20, 1989.
After a wild opening quarter that had the Gaiters outlasting McGill 30-29, Bishop's took a 58-39 lead into halftime, then outscored the Redbirds 15-14 and 38-8 over the final two quarters.
BU nailed 16 treys on 27 attempts, had a 30-20 edge in rebounding and committed only 15 turnovers, compared to 29 by McGill.
Sean Herscovitch led the Redbirds with 14 points, while
Joshua Soifer added 10.
Zachary Lavoie-Toure and
Saransh Padhy added seven points apiece.
Five Gaiters reached double digits in scoring, including
Corey Nzigamasabo (16),
Charles Robert (14),
Hisham Saleh (14) and
Ambs Mathe (12).
Bishop's shot 61.8 per cent from the floor (42/68) and went 11-for-14 from the free-throw line, compared to McGill, which shot 44.7 per cent (21/47) and drained 13 of 18 from the stripe.
McGill (0-5) will host UQAM (4-0) on Nov. 25 in a 4 p.m. matinee at Love Competition Hall. Bishop's (4-1) will play at Concordia (2-2) on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m.
