QUEBEC CITY –
Ismael Diouf registered a double-double as Laval coasted to a 79-47 victory over McGill in men's basketball, Saturday, at the Centre PEPS.
It was the first win for Laval, which improved to 1-3, while the Redbirds dropped to 0-4.
The Rouge et Or led 10-9 after the first quarter, 31-16 at halftime and 51-32 after three, then took the last quarter 28-15.
Laval, which had a huge 51-22 edge in rebounding, went 12-for-18 from the free-throw line, compared to the Redbirds, who only visited the line four times and drained two of them.
Diouf was one of five Laval players to reach double-digit scoring, with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Sidney Tremblay-Lacombe added 15 points, while
Saydou Sall had 11 and
Steeve Joseph tallied 10.
Haris Elezovic, who graduated from McGill last spring and transferred to Laval for an MBA program, was making his first appearance against his former teammates. He had a game-high 15 rebounds, along with three points, one steal, a block and three assists.
Sean Herscovitch and
Matt Phaneuf led the Redbirds with nine points apiece, while
Joshua Soifer added eight.
Laval shot 44.4 per cent from the floor (28/63) and went 11-for-28 from three-point range, while McGill shot 28.8 per cent (19/66) and went 7-for-28 from long distance.
McGill will now focus on preparing for the next game at Bishop's (3-1) on Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. Laval will host Concordia (2-2) on Nov. 25.
