MONTREAL – Striker
Raphael Isiaka scored twice as the UQAM Citadins tripled McGill 3-1 in men's university soccer at Stade Saputo, Friday.
Midfielder
Reese Carlow, an economics sophomore from Japan, tallied the lone McGill goal.
The result ended McGill's 3-0-1 undefeated streak against UQAM and moved the unranked Citadins into a tie with the Montreal Carabins for the league lead after seven games. Both have identical 4-1-2 records.
McGill, meanwhile, dropped to 2-3-2 on the season and sits two points shy of the fourth and final playoff berth in the seven-team RSEQ conference. With five games remaining before playoffs, the Redbirds are 2-3-2 and tied with fifth-place Concordia (2-2-2).
Timothe Makanzu rounded out the scoring for UQAM.
The Citadins had a 6-5 edge in shots on net, with goalkeeper
Martin Cantona making four saves for the victory.
McGill 'keeper
Chris Cinelli-Faia, a senior from Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., filled in between the pipes, replacing
Ludovyck Ciociola starter who was serving a one-game suspension for incurring a red card in the last game. Cinelli-Faia registered three saves for McGill and took the loss.
The game was a testy affair, with six yellow cards issued, including four to the Redbirds.
UQAM will host fifth-place Concordia (2-2-2) on Oct. 2, while McGill will host the No.5-ranked Montreal Carabins (4-1-2) on Oct. 7 at 8:15 p.m.
