MONTREAL -- Striker
Thierry Cote scored in the 33rd minute of play as the No.4 ranked Montreal Carabins blanked McGill 1-0 in men's soccer at Terrain Vincent d'Indy, Sunday.
It was the first victory in three tries for the defending national champions, who improved to 1-0-2.
The Carabins had an 11-4 advantage in shots on net -- and a 21-6 territorial edge in attempted shots -- but were thwarted time after time by 5-foot-11 McGill goalkeeper
Ludovyck Ciociola, a management freshman from Montreal, who was credited with a whopping nine saves in a losing cause.
Carabins 'keeper
Jordan Tisseur posted a three-save shutout for the victory.
There were three yellow cards issued in the contest, all to McGill.
Gaetan Hamid received his caution in the 49th minute, while
Emilio Rossi-Levin was warned in the 60th and
Bilal Bouchemella was flagged in the final minute.
The Redbirds (0-1-1) will now turn their focus on preparation to confront the undefeated UQTR Patriotes (2-0-1) on Sept. 16 in an 8:15 p.m. kickoff at Percival Molson Stadium. Two days later, the Carabins (1-0-2) will host UQAM (0-1-2).
