MONTREAL –
Amaiquen Siciliano scored a game-high 23 points, helping Bishop's rally from a seven-point deficit to outlast McGill 72-65 in the final women's basketball game of the fall semester, Saturday, at Love Competition Hall.
The result maintained an unblemished record for the division-leading Gaiters, who improved to 6-0, while McGill tumbled to 0-6.
Freshman
Stephy Tchoukuiegno of Montreal scored a season-high 18 points for the Martlets, who led 16-11 after the opening quarter and 31-27 at halftime. McGill extended the lead to 53-45 with 63 seconds remaining in the third quarter but the Gaiters reduced the deficit to 53-50 heading into the final quarter.
The visitors finally took the lead at 61-59 with 4:41 remaining in the game and held it until the final buzzer.
Tchoukuiegno, a 5-foot-7 guard with the Martlets, connected on 63.6 percent of her field-goal attempts (7/11), including a solid 4-for-6 performance from three-point range. In 29 minutes of playing time the 20-year-old physical and health education freshman also had one rebound and a steal.
Also reaching double figures for McGill was
Daniella Mbengo, a freshman guard from Montreal, who had 14 points with four rebounds and four assists.
Siciliano was one of four Gaiters to reach double-digit scoring, along with
Jennifer Louis (12),
Deborah Aboagye (12) and
Kalina Alexander-Ren (10).
