MONTREAL --
Sabrina Mayer scored a game-high 21 points to pace the UQAM Citadins en route to a surprising 3-1 victory over No.5 ranked McGill in RSEQ women's volleyball, Friday. After winning the opening set 25-21, the Martlets dropped three straight by scores of 27-25, 25-15 and 25-21.
It was the second straight setback for McGill, which has now dropped consecutive contests to even its record at 2-2 in league play.
Both teams had 51 kills and 69 digs apiece but the Citadins had the upper-hand in both aces 911-5) and stuff blocks (11-4).
McGill featured a foursome in double digits, led
Charlene Robitaille with 14 points. Other leading scorers included
Victoria Iannotti (12),
Meaghan Smith (10.5) and
Brook Brown (10).
Audrey Trottier, the Martlets setter, was credited with 41 assists, nine digs, three assisted blocks and one kill.
Mayer was part of a balanced UQAM attack that also featured four players in double digit scoring.Teammate
Laura Cote-Colin contributed 15 points, while
Gabrielle Cloutier and
Anica Pineault added 11.5 and 10 points, respectively.
McGill (2-2), will look to snap their two-game slide on Sunday (Nov. 60 when they host the winless UQTR Patriotes (0-5) in a 1 p.m. tip-off at Love Competition Hall. UQAM (3-2) plays at Ottawa (2-1) at the same time.
