TROIS-RIVIERES, QUE. --
Victoria Iannotti of St. Laurent, Que., scored 19 points as the visiting McGill women's volleyball team rallied from a first-set deficit to defeat UQTR 3-1 in a hard-fought RSEQ conference opener, Sunday.
The set scores were 22-25, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-18.
The stats were fairly even with both teams racking up 49 kills apiece. The Martlets had a 9-4 edge in service aces and a 58-51 advantage in digs but UQTR held a 10-7 margin in stuff blocks.
Iannotti, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter, hammered out 16 kills, one ace, a pair of blocks and a team-high 11 digs. She was one of three Martlets to reach double digits in scoring.
Newcomer
Rachel Leduc, a native of Montreal who transferred from Camosun College in Victoria, B.C., collected 15.5 points, while co-captain
Charlene Robitaille of St. Jean, Que., contributed 10.5.
Audrey Trottier, a senior setter from Longueuil, Que., was credited with 42 assists, to go along with six digs and an assisted block.
McGill (1-0) will host the undefeated Montreal Carabins (2-0) in the team's official home opener on Oct. 21 in a 6:30 pm start at Love Competition Hall.
