MONTREAL –
Isiah Campbell of Pierrefonds, Que., scored at 2:19 of overtime as the visiting Concordia Stingers escaped with a 1-0 win over McGill in men's preseason hockey at McConnell Arena, Saturday.
It was the first 1-0 result ever played between the cross-town rivals dating back to the series debut in 1975, a span of 229 games. McGill holds a slim lead in the all-time head-to-head series with a 109-106-14 record.
Concordia held a 42-31 advantage in shots. Rookie goaltender
Thomas Sigouin, who lost 4-3 to McGill the previous night, made 31 saves for the shutout. Freshman
Alexis Shank was credited with 41 saves in a losing cause for McGill.
Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power-play. They will cross paths again in the OUA regular season opener at Concordia on Nov. 3.
Before then, McGill (2-2) has two preseason games remaining, both against the UQTR Patriotes. The bitter rivals will tango in Trois-Rivieres on Friday, Oct. 29, before a return engagement in Montreal on Oct. 30. Both are slated to start at 7 p.m.
