OTTAWA --
Colton Campbell and
Kerry Kane each tallied hat-tricks as McGill overwhelmed Ottawa 11-4 in a men's university lacrosse game played Saturday in the nation's capital.
McGill, which improved their unblemished record 3-0 in league play, led 4-2 after the opening quarter, 6-2 at the half and 7-3 after three, then outscored the host Gee-Gees 4-1 in the final stanza.
Campbell, a speedy, 5-foot-8, 165-pound attackman from Boulder, Col, tallied all of his goals in the opening quarter. The 20-year-old economics junior put McGill ahead 2-1 and 3-2, then made it 4-2 to give his troops a lead that they would not relinquish.
Kane, a freshman from Kahnawake, Que., scored the last goal of the second quarter to make it 6-1, then added a pair in the final period.
Rounding out the scoring for McGill was
Liam MacDonald,
Tanner Baldin, Cameron McGinnis,
Ian Macleod and
Ethan Forgrave.
Ottawa native
Teilen Celentano scored three goals in a losing cause for the Gee-Gees.
Frederick Hartley, also from the capital city, was the other Ottawa marksman.
McGill took advantage of the lopsided score to give playing time to all 45 players on the dress-list and to play musical chairs with their goaltenders.
Senior
Michael Gallo was rested and sophomore
Steven Pelliccione of Woodbridge, Ont., started between the pipes to register the win, allowing two goals in the first quarter. He was relieved for the next two stanzas by his older brother
David Pelliccione, who was beaten only once in 40 minutes. Freshman
Joseph Boehm of Waterloo came on for the final 20 minutes and conceded one goal.
Shots on goal were not available.
At the other end of the field, Ottawa's
Evan Fox went the distance and allowed 11 goals for the loss.
McGill (3-0) will put their undefeated streak on the line at Queen's (2-1) on Sunday (Sept. 22) at 2 p.m.
Ottawa, which dropped to 1-3, is off until Sept. 28, when they host Nipissing (2-2).
