MONTREAL --
Calvin Epistola of Toronto scored 16 points and his Ottawa Gee-Gees deployed a second-quarter blitz en route to a 79-61 victory over McGill on Day 2 of the Olga Hyrcak Classic men's basketball tournament, held Saturday at the Centre Sportif de l'UQAM.
The result snapped McGill's win streak at five. Ottawa, which also defeated McGill 93-62 earlier in the semester, improved their stellar record to 18-4 on the season overall, while McGill dropped to 9-10, including an 8-5 mark versus Canadian opponents.
McGill led 23-20 after the opening quarter but Ottawa responded with a 30-11 outburst in the second stanza to take a commanding 50-34 halftime lead. McGill won the third quarter 15-14 and the Gee-Gees prevailed 15-12 in the final frame.
Ottawa, which had a 45-31 edge in rebounding, featured a spread offence with three players in double digits and three others scoring nine points apiece.

JJ Hamel-Carey added 10 points and
Sam Jenkins had eight, while
Jamal Mayali and
Antoney Bell added seven apiece.
Ottawa shot 42.5 per cent from the floor (31/73), went 9-for-30 from three-point range and dropped eight of 10 free-throws. McGill connected on only 29 per cent (20/69), made 5-of-25 from downtown and drained 16 of 19 freebies.
McGill (1-1) will play Guelph (1-1) in the consolation round on Sunday at 2 p.m. (NOTE: This game was initially scheduled for 4 p.m.)
