McGill soccer player Ibn-Brahim earns All-Canadian status

MONTREAL – Mehdi Ibn-Brahim, a soccer player from McGill University, merited all-Canadian second-team status when the men's soccer major award winners were announced by U SPORTS at the national championship last week. The tournament featured an all-Québec final for the first time ever and UQTR prevailed with a 2-0 victory over the Montréal Carabins

It marked the 65th time in team history that a McGill player has earned All-Canadian honours (see complete lkist below).

Ibn-Brahim, a 5-foot-7, 160-pound striker born in Casablanca but raised in Laval, Que., tallied eight goals in 10 games to become the first McGill player to capture an RSEQ conference goal-scoring title since 2013. The  23-year-old mathematics senior, who also added an assist, was a Quebec league all-star for the third time. He concluded a brilliant varsity career with 24 regular season goals over his four years.

Among the major awards handed out was to Montreal midfielder Aboubacar Sissoko, who received the Joe Johnson Memorial Trophy as player of the year.

Mount Royal midfielder Dane Domic captured the Lou Bilek award as rookie of the year, while Dalhousie forward Gracious Kasheke earned the Student-Athlete Community Service Award for his outstanding contribution both on and off the playing field. Carleton bench boss Kwesi Loney received the Fox 40 coach-of-the-year award.
