MONTREAL -- It was billed as the game to watch and it came as promised, with the seventh-ranked Montreal Carabins rallying from a first-set deficit en route to a 3-1 over No.8 McGill in women's volleyball at the Centre CEPSUM, Friday. The Martlets took the first set 25-17 but UdeM roared back to win 25-20, 25-15 and 25-22.
The Carabins, who improved to 3-0, had an advantage in kills (48-38), aces (8-6), digs (44-31) and assists (48-37). The Martlets, who dropped to 1-2, held a slim 10-8 edge in blocked shots.
UdeM rookie
Maude Babin, a native of France, dominated the game with 24.5 points. She registered a whopping 21 kills, two aces and 1.5 stuff blocks. Two other Carabins reached double-digits in scoring, with
Adryanna Dorismond and
Clemence Provost collecting 11.5 and 11.0 points, respectively.
Leading McGill's offence was
Myriam Robitaille (13 pts),
Elisabeth Perrault (10.5),
Claire Vercheval (8.5) and
Charlene Robitaille (8.5).
The result spoiled a 30-assist performance from McGill setter
Andreanne Tremblay.
McGill (1-2) has less than a day to recover as they will play in Sherbrooke (0-3) in a Saturday (Oct. 26) matinee at 2:30 p.m.
Montreal (3-0) will host Ottawa (0-3) on Saturday at 3;30 pm.
