Sam Greene of Philadelphia, Penn., tossed a one-hit complete game a shutout as McGill blanked Ottawa 13-0 in the opening game of a Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association doubleheader, Saturday.
McGill, which outhit the Gee-Gees 10-1, scored four runs in the first inning, then added two in the second, four in the third and three more in the fourth before the mercy rule was invoked in the fifth inning.
Greene, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-hander, struck out six and walked two batters for the win. The strategic management junior threw 64 pitches, 38 of them for strikes.
Anselmo Selotario, the designated-hitter who was batting ninth, had the lone Ottawa hit with a one-out single on a 1-1 count in the top of the third inning.

Charles Winans of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, led the McGill offence with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. The arts freshman scored three runs, collecting a pair of RBIs and stealing two bases. Teammates

Jonathan Duforest of Kirkland, Que., each added a pair of hits, while leadoff hitter
Sasha Lagarde of Pierrefonds, Que., was 1-for-2 with a run and a game-high three RBIs.
Vincent Browne took the loss for Ottawa. He surrendered 10 runs (seven earned) on seven hits over three innings, walking four, hitting two batters and striking out one.
McGill improved to 11-3 atop the CCBA Northern Division, while fifth-place Ottawa tumbled to 3-11. Game 2 of the twin-bill was slated for 2:20 p.m.
