TROIS-RIVIERES --
Christophe Boivin notched five points, including a hat-trick as his UQTR Patriotes rallied for a 7-3 victory over McGill in a men's preseason hockey game at Le Colisée, Wednesday.
It was the second straight display of high-octane offence for the Pats who outlasted Concordia 10-7 in a wild exhibition contest over the weekend.
The defending league champion Redmen, who had a 39-30 edge in shots on net, led 2-1 after the opening period but saw the Pats rebound for a 4-3 advantage after two, before adding three more in the final period.
With McGill leading 3-2 early in the middle stanza on goals by senior
Redgie Bois, freshman
Nicolas Poulin and sophomore
Keanu Yamamoto, the Pats awoke with five unanswered goals. Boivin put the Patriotes ahead 4-3 at 18:06 of the second, then made it 5-3 midway through the final frame and completed his three-goal soirée five minutes later, at 15:20.
Other UQTR marksmen included
Allan Caron, with a pair, plus
Mathieu Lemay (1-3-4) and
Loik Leveillé.
Goaltender
Sebastien Auger made 37 save for the win, while McGill freshman
Antoine Samuel registered 23 saves for the loss.
The Redmen went 0-for-4 on the power-play while the Pats were 0-for-5.
McGill, which is still looking for their first win after three preseason contests, will host Royal Military College on Friday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 pm in the first home game at McConnell Arena. Then the official start to their 143rd season of hockey on campus is slated to begin on Oct. 5 with a home game against Queen's, who will be making their only scheduled visit of the season to the McGill campus.
