OTTAWA --
Sam Greene racked up 11 strikeouts in a complete game victory as McGill quadrupled Carleton 4-1 on Saturday in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association play to complete a doubleheader sweep. The defending national champion Redmen, who won the opener 11-1, now lead the CUFLA North Division with a 7-3 record.
McGill, which had a 10-4 advantage in hits, opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. They led 3-1 after the fifth and added a final run in the sixth.
Greene, a 20-year management junior from Philadelphia, scattered four hits over seven innings, surrendering one run, walking three and hitting two batters. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound righth-hander threw 103 pitches, 65 of them for strikes,
Freshman
Michael O'Toole of North Surrey, B.C., led the offence with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Dominic DeFelice of Richmond, Mass., also collected two hits to lead the Redmen, who played error-free ball. Other McGill RBIs were credited to
Jared Kersh and
Jonathan Duforest, who both went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Ryan Burnside also tossed a complete game, in a losing cause for Carleton. He allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits over six innings, striking out five and walking none.
McGill, which improved to 13-5-3 in 21 games overall, heads across the border to Rutland, Vt., where they will play an exhibition doubleheader against College of St. Joseph on Sunday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
