OTTAWA --
Seth Obadia of Port Washington, N.Y., and
Maxime Murdoch of Westmount, Que., each tallied hat-tricks as the McGill men's lacrosse team extended their perfect record to 4-0 with an overwhelming 18-2 rout at Carleton in CUFLA action on Sunday afternoon.
It was the team's highest single offensive output since an 18-5 win at Carleton on Oct. 21, 2017.
The Redmen led 4-1 after the opening quarter, 8-2 at halftime and then outscored a gassed Carleton side 3-0 in the third quarter and 7-0 in the final frame.
"It was a very hot day on the artificial turf and a quick turnaround with a noon start after playing last night against Ottawa (a 12-10 overtime win) so we took advantage of our large roster to play a lot of our younger guys in the second half," said McGill head coach
Tim Murdoch in a post-game call from the team charter. "Our guys are drained, many of them are sleeping on the bus. It's been a tiring road trip but it's mission accomplished. We're returning home with two wins."
Six different McGill players scored multiple markers, including two apiece by
Cougar Kirby (2-3-5) of Kahnawake, Que.,
Colton Campbell of Boulder, Col.,
Scotty Bauer of Newtown, Conn., and
Hunter Zawada from Kimberley, B.C.
Singles went to
Liam MacDonald of North Vancouver, B.C.,
Kai McDonald of Coquitlam, B.C.,
Quentin Norris of Southbury, Conn., and
Andrew Chase of Summit, N.J.
David Pelliccione, a 6-foot-1 economics junior from Woodbridge, Ont., got the starting assignment for McGill and saved seven of nine shots to collect his first win of the season. He was replaced in the final 20 minutes by freshman
Steven Pelliccione, his 18-year-old brother, who kicked aside both shots faced.
It marked the first time in team history that siblings shared the net.
Scoring for Carleton was
Matt Klassen and
George Moroney. Goalkeeper
Simon Bellamy allowed all 18 goals and was charged with the loss.
Next on tap for McGill (4-0) is a home match-up with Ottawa (1-2) on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The Gee-Gees will be looking to avenge a 12-10 overtime loss to McGill on Sept. 15.
