MONTREAL -- Sophomore Jeremie Alcindor, a 19-year-old medical student from Montreal, operated with scalpel-like precision to score in the 90th minute as the McGill University men's soccer team rallied to settle for a 1-1 tie against Sherbrooke in their RSEQ regular season opener before a boisterous crowd of 312 on a humid night at Percival Molson Stadium, Wednesday.

The Redmen, who registered a 5-2 edge in shots on net, improved their undefeated streak versus Sherbrooke to 7-0-2, dating back to a 4-2 loss on Oct. 6, 2013.

Alcindor, who actually tallied his magical marker in the sixth minute of add-on time, is a 6-foot-2, 168-pound midfielder who wears lucky No. 13 on his jersey. On the goal, he made a spirited run down the field and added a good delivery on the ball, which deflected over the 'keeper.

"That goal showed that we have a team that refuses to give up," said Redmen head coach Marc Mounicot. "We have a young team and played five freshmen. Although some players looked nervous, we had possession of the ball for most of the game. We will need to work a bit on generating more quality offensive plays."

After playing to a scoreless first half, Sherbrooke's Vincent Aubin converted a pass from Etienne Gendron to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute of play.

Goalkeeper Theo Farineau, a 6-foot-2, political science sophomore from France, started between the pipes for McGill and saved one of two shots to salvage the tie. Freshman Thierry Debard, his starting counterpart at the other end of the field, saved four of five shots and was picked as Sherbrooke's player of the game by Mounicot. McGill's player of the game honouree, selected by Sherbrooke coach David Guichard, was Mehdi Ibn-Brahim, a third-year striker who hails all the way from Casablanca.
