MONTREAL -- Tim Murdoch, long-time head coach of the McGill University men's lacrosse team, was among the McGill Alumni Association's annual honours and awards banquet, Wednesday, at the Hotel Omni Mont-Royal in downtown Montreal.

Murdoch received the Honora Shaughnessy Ambassador Award, presented in honour of the long-serving executive director of the McGill Alumni Association, to a friend of McGill who has made an exceptional contribution to the University as a role model in fostering friend-raising, loyalty, professionalism and team spirit.

Among the other laureates was Howard Davidson, father of former McGill star hockey player Gabrielle Davidson, who was given an honorary life membership award, presented to a non-graduate who has demonstrated a significant commitment of outstanding service to the McGill Alumni Association and to McGill.

Murdoch, a native of Princeton, N.J., who owns a winning percentage of .672, would be an asset to any sports team. As bench boss of the Redmen lacrosse team since 2003, he is a winner in every sense of the word, developing the team, its players and a tradition of excellence, which has resulted in seven consecutive Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association East pennants (2011-2017), three undefeated regular seasons (2013-2015), and two national championships.

There's no secret behind Tim's success – just dedication and hard work. A part-time coach in title only, he actively recruits premier players from across Canada and the U.S. looking for talent. It's clear from the Redmen lacrosse roster – which includes 16 Americans, seven players from BC and 10 from Ontario – that he excels as an ambassador for McGill.

But Tim doesn't stop there. He ensures that his athletes make a long-term contribution – even after they leave the team. Thanks to his fundraising efforts, more than $140,000 has been raised by supporters (including Tim himself), which is reinvested into the lacrosse program.

As a McGill coach, ambassador, supporter and mentor, Tim has exerted an immeasurable and positive impact on hundreds of students and contributed his generous talent to the sustained success of a championship team.
