Duncan Campbell of Brandon, Man scored at 2:31 of overtime as Queen's rallied for a 2-1 victory over the McGill men's hockey team to put a damper on their 143rd season opener on Friday, at McConnell Arena.
It snapped a two-game losing streak for the Gaels who hadn't beaten McGill since Mar. 3, 2017 when they triumphed 4-2 in the OUA East Final. Last season, the Redmen swept both regular season matchups.McGill owns a 127-55-2 lifetime record vs the Gaels in a series that dates all the way back to 1895.
Aaron Armstrong scored the first goal of the new season for McGill in his regular season debut after transferring from Ryerson to complete a master's degree. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound centre from Teeswater, Ont., struck paydirt just two minutes and 10 seconds after the initial puck drop.
Queen's evened the score at 3:32 of the second period when defenceman
Nevin Guy capitalized on a power-play opportunity.

Justin Fazio collected the victory with 32 saves. Redmen sophomore
Louis-Philip Guindon registered
26 shots in a losing cause.
The Redmen were 0-for-3 on the power-play, while Queen's replied on 1-of-6 opportunities.
The two teams are scheduled to cross paths again on Feb 9 at the Memorial Centre in Kingston, Ont.
McGill (0-0-1) has less than 24 hours to prepare for battle with fresh-legged UQTR (0-0) as the archrivals are slated to cross paths at McConnell Arena on Sat., Oct. 6. Queen's (1-0) will play next on Oct 10 when they host RMC (1-0) which upset Concordia 2-1 in Kingston on Thursday.
