MONTREAL –
Rose-Marie Julien, a sophomore defender from Laval, Que., scored the deciding goal in penalty kicks as the top-seeded Montreal Carabins survived a scare and rallied to edge fourth-place McGill 2-1, in an RSEQ women's soccer semifinal at Stade CEPSUM, Sunday.
The Carabins, who won the shootout session 4-3, advance to the league championship game on Nov. 4. They will host the winner of the other semifinal between third-place UQTR and second-seeded Laval. That game was postponed due to a snowstorm in Quebec City and is now slated for Friday, Nov. 2.
McGill, which outshot Montreal 8-2, opened the scoring on an early marker by
Claudia Agozzino. But the Carabins forced overtime when
Melissa Proulx knotted the score at 1-1 in the 37th minute.
The Martlets finished their season at 9-7-2 overall, including an 8-4-2 fourth-place finish in regular season play.
It marked the final outdoor game for seven graduating seniors, a group that includes keeper
Sarah Dubois, defenders
Sarah-Maude Bouchard-Canuel and
Natasha Tcheki-Jamgotchian, midfielders
Stefania Folino,
Claudia Agozzino and
Sophie Barlos, in addition to forward
Olivia Lusterio-Adler.
