SHERBROOKE QUE. --
Nathalie Brunelle of Montreal scored once and added a pair of helpers as McGill defeated Sherbrooke 3-0 in RSEQ women's soccer at Stade de l'université, Sunday.
The Martlets, who swept both confrontations against Sherbrooke this year, improved their head-to-head record to 6-10-2 against the Vert et Or since 2011.
Veteran goalkeeper
Sarah Dubois of Edmonton, Alta., made three saves and registered the victory before giving way to freshman
Annabelle Matysiak, who played the final 11 minutes and faced no shots.
Joining
Brunelle on the scoresheet was senior
Tia Lore of Richmond, B.C., and sophomore
Victoria Sturgess, a native of Quakertown, Penn.
With two games left to play, the Martlets (6-4-2) sit precariously perched in the fourth and final playoff berth, three points behind third-place UQTR (6-1-5) and three points ahead of fifth-place UQAM (5-5-2). Concordia (4-7-1) sits sixth in the eight-team Quebec league, four points in arrears of UQAM and seven behind McGill.
McGill plays next against eighth-place Bishop's (0-11-1) on Friday, Oct. 19 (7.p.m.) at Coulter Field. Sherbrooke will host UQTR on Oct. 19.
