SHERBROOKE QUE. -- Three freshmen scored and rookie goalkeeper Chris Cinelli-Faie posted a four-save shutout as McGill blanked Sherbrooke 3-0 in RSEQ men's soccer at Stade de l'université, Sunday.
 
The Redmen improved their undefeated streak versus Sherbrooke to 8-0-2, dating back to a 4-2 loss on Oct. 6, 2013.
 
It was the second shutout of the regular season for Cinelli-Faie, a 5-foot-8 physical education freshman from Dollard des Ormeaux, Que.

"We had a very strong start, scoring three times in 25 minutes," said Marc Mounicot, now in his fifth season as head coach of the Redmen after moving over from the women's program. "We are playing a nice brand of soccer right now. This is the third clean sheet in a row, which is important for our goal differential in a tie-breaking situation. We can still finish anywhere from third to fifth. Our final game versus UQAM will be like a playoff game. Our team is confident and ready for the challenge."
 
McGill goals were scored by freshman defender Chris Foy of New York City, forward Florian Bettelli, a native of France and junior forward Mehdi Ibn-Brahim of Montreal.  The official times are not available.
 
With one game remaining in the regular season, McGill (5-4-2) now sits in the fourth and final playoff berth, three points ahead of fifth-place UQTR (4-4-2). Last place Sherbrooke dropped to 0-8-2 and will not make the post-season.
 
McGill will play a crucial match between third place UQAM (5-1-4) on Sunday, Oct. 21 (1.p.m.)  at Percival Molson Stadium.
 
Sherbrooke hosts UQTR at home on Oct. 19.
