MONTREAL -- Chama Sedki of Longueuil, Que., scored on a penalty kick in the 18th minute of play as Concordia surprised McGill 1-0 in RSEQ women's soccer at the west-end Loyola campus field on Sunday.

The result was Concordia's first victory over the Martlets in almost five years -- since a 1-0 decision on Oct. 11, 2012 -- snapping an 0-6-2 winless streak against McGill. It was also Concordia's first victory of the season and put the Stingers (1-2-3) into the fourth and final playoff berth, one point ahead of the Martlets (1-3-2)..

"We stuck to the game plan and were all over them but our finishing touch wasn't there. It was like there was a force field around their net," said McGill head coach Jose-Luis Valdes. "It was probably the game we have dominated the most during my time with McGill. We had the ball the whole time. We weren't very lucky and hit two crossbars with the ball bouncing down in front and we still couldn't convert. We had chances where we beat their 'keeper but some Concordia players ended up making stops on the goal line."

Concordia goalkeeper Gabriela Angoso-Jimenez, a 5-foot-6 native of Spain and a transfer from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, made seven saves for the shutout. The result spoiled the regular season debut of McGill 'keeper Jeanne Evrard, a 5-foot-4 freshman from Montreal, who was credited with six saves, all of them from long distance, and saddled with the loss.

Sedki, a sophomore midfielder, was named Game MVP for Concordia, while forward Claudia Agozzino, a civil engineering senior from Montreal, merited the honour for McGill.
