Soccer's Citadins settle for draw against Martlets


MONTREAL -- Tia Lore and Kacey Vadeboncoeur scored five minutes apart as McGill and the Université du Québec à Montréal battled to a 1-1 draw in RSEQ women's soccer, Thursday, at Percival Molson Stadium.

The Martlets dominated play with an 11-5 advantage in shots, a 6-3 margin in shots on net and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. The game featured 17 fouls, including 14 called on the Citadins, while McGill junior forward Olivia Lusterio-Adler drew the only yellow card dished out..

Lore, a 5-foot-7 forward of Richmond, B.C., put McGill on the board in the 53rd minute, assisted by rookie Ariane Ducharme of Notre Dame des Prairies, Que. But Vadeboncoeur, a striker from Greenfield Park, Que., evened things up for UQAM in the 58th.

Martlets goalkeeper Sarah Dubois of Edmonton made a pair of saves while Daphné Perreault, her Citadins counterpart, turned away five shots.

Forward Claudia Agozzino of Montreal was named Game MVP for the hosts, while reigning U SPORTS rookie of the year Julia Liguori took the honours for UQAM.

McGill (1-2-2) visits Concordia (0-2-2) at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. The Citadins (0-1-4) will face UQTR (2-2-0) that afternoon.
