MONTREAL --
Félipe Costa da Souza of Brazil scored the game-winner as ninth-ranked Université du Québec à Montréal rallied with three goals in the final 13 minutes of play to defeat McGill 3-1, Thursday, in RSEQ men's soccer at Percival Molson Stadium.
The Redmen had two chances to tie the game at 2-2 with about two minutes remaining but Citadins goalkeeper
Valentin Lamoulie, made a huge diving save to his left and in the final minute, the McGill striker hit the goal post on the feft-side. UQAM added an insurance marker seconds later, when
Miary Rakoto tallied just before time expired.
UQAM had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks but committed 15 fouls compared to eight from the hosts.
It appeared that an upset was in the making when McGill took the lead in the 12th minute when
Mehdi Ibn-Brahim, a 5-foot-6, 155-pound striker from Montreal, gave the home side the early advantage, assisted by fellow Montrealer
Alexis Solis. Ibn-Brahim merited player of the game honours for McGill.
Étienne Lorenzi tied things up for UQAM in the 77th minute, followed by Costa da Souza's game-winner in the 78th.
Lamoulie was credited with three stops in the Citadins net for the win, while rookie Redmen 'keeper
Theo Farineau of France turned away two shots in a losing cause. He was pulled from the net in the final minute and almost kicked the tying marker but had to scramble back downfield on a UQAM counter-attack.
Defender
André Gregory Bona was named Game MVP for the visitors.
McGill (1-3-1) visits Concordia (0-3-0) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. UQAM (3-1-0) travels to Trois-Rivières (1-1-1) that same day.
